$2.4m funding announcement

We’re kicking off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with what we hope will be a body blow to childhood brain cancer. On top of the $3.2million we’ve already raised since 2019, we’re announcing a further $2.4million in funding over the next 3.5 years, in partnership with the Greiner Foundation.

HERE’S WHAT WE’RE DOING:

Funding five full-time researchers’ salaries for the next 3.5 years at a cost of $1.3m

In addition to the three researchers who already make up the Levi’s Project team, we’re funding a further two positions. This includes a Research Fellow (Senior Scientist), Early Career Research Fellow, Senior Research Assistant and two Research Assistants. This five-strong Levi’s Project team form part of the 15-strong Brain Tumours Group at Children’s Cancer Institute, a true collaboration to uncover new treatment strategies to treat childhood brain cancers.

Developing four new research arms focused on building on world-first discoveries and shaping the next generation of combination therapies for DIPG:

  1. Discovery: defining new targets and new DIPG therapies through data and analysis gleaned from Zero Childhood Cancer, Australia’s first-ever precision medicine program for kids with cancer.

  2. Pathway: improving our understanding of how currently available treatments, such as CBL0137, DFMO/AMXT 1501, ACT001 and antiGD2-CAR, work and influence the tumour microenvironment and develop new combination therapies for clinical translation.

  3. Breakthrough: understand how DIPG influences the brain vasculature and identify Blood Brain Barrier modulators that can enhance the penetration of targeted chemotherapies and immunotherapy agents into the brain.

  4. Combination: optimise combination therapies, such as ACT001, using data from Zero Childhood Cancer and tumour material to determine which oncogenic pathways are affected and how to combine it with clinically available agents rationally.

None of this is possible without your support at every step of the way. Thank you for staying the course with us.
